Mumbai: Dilip Kumar, the legendary actor of the subcontinent and the emperor of Bollywood, who ruled over millions of hearts, has passed away at the age of 98.
According to Indian media, Bollywood actor Yousuf Khan alias Dilip Kumar, known as the “Emperor of Emotions”, was shifted to Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital last week due to difficulty in breathing and died at the same hospital. Lee Dilip Kumar was rushed to hospital twice last month for respiratory problems.
Dilip Sahib was shifted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on June 6 last month where his family brought him back home on June 11 after his condition improved. However, his condition worsened and he was shifted to Hinduja Hospital again on Wednesday, June 30, where he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward under the supervision of doctors.

Dilip Kumar’s family was constantly keeping his fans informed about Dilip Sahib’s health and his condition was improving for the last two days. A close friend of Dilip Sahib had also asked all the people to pray for his recovery. However, Dilip Sahib could not survive and according to Indian media reports, Bollywood’s “Tragedy King” Dilip Kumar breathed his last at 7:30 am on Wednesday at Khar Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

Dilip Kumar’s death was announced on his verified Twitter account by his family friend Faisal Farooqi. He wrote on Twitter: “With deep sorrow and deep grief, I announce the death of our beloved Dilip Saab who passed away a few minutes ago. “We belong to Allah and to Allah we have to return.”

Due to his longevity, Dilip Kumar had been hospitalized for a few years due to breathing difficulties, chest pain, lung and kidney problems. Legendary actor Dilip Kumar will be buried at 5 pm today at Joho Cemetery in Santa Cruz, Mumbai.

Born as Yusuf Khan in Khudadad, Peshawar, Dilip Kumar made his acting debut in 1944 with the film Jawarbhata. Dilip Kumar, who has ruled Bollywood for almost five decades, has acted in more than 63 films. He was known as a romantic hero of his time. ‘Sang Dil’, ‘Amar’, ‘Uran Khatola’, ‘On’, ‘Andaz’, ‘Naya Door’, ‘Madhumati’, ‘Yehudi’, ‘Mughal Azam’ and ‘Devdas’ are some of the films in which Because of his work, he was nicknamed the “Emperor of Emotions”. But he proved that he knows the art of making people laugh by acting in the films ‘Koh-e-Noor’, ‘Azad’, ‘Ganga-Jamna’ and ‘Ram and Shyam’

Dilip Kumar was an actor of his time whose style was imitated by boys and his fellow heroines as well as ordinary girls used to die for him. There were rumors of his love for the heroine Madhubala but the two could never be one in life.

In 1994, Dilip Kumar was awarded the Dada Sahib Phalke Award, the highest honor in the Indian film industry. In 2015, he was awarded India’s second highest civilian honor, the Padma V Bhushan. In 1998, Dilip Sahib was awarded the highest civilian honor in Pakistan by the government of Pakistan.
