Musician and singer Bilal Maqsood details his first meeting with the late Qawal Amjad Sabri and how they became good friends.
Sharing a photo taken on the set of Coke Studio with Amjad Sabri of his former band Strings on Instagram, Bilal wrote:
We had the privilege of working with this amazing artist and man, he was always full of life and energy. ”
The purpose of this meeting with Amjad Sabri was to show the Qawwal “Tajdar Haram” sung in the voice of Atif Aslam for Coke Studio which was sung by the late Ghulam Farid Sabri, father of Amjad Sabri.
“It may have taken a few minutes, but I started to feel like we’ve known each other for years,” Bilal said. After that, Amjad was called to sing “Rang” in Cook Studios Season 9 and that night he created magic with Rahat Fateh Ali.
Bilal, who shared the note on the occasion of Amjad Sabri’s fifth birthday, added that the news of Amjad’s death 20 days later shook him. “It was the 16th of Ramadan when he left us and went to his eternal home,” Bilal wrote.
Amjad Sabri was shot dead in Liaquatabad area of Karachi on June 22, 2016 during the month of Ramadan. He was the son of Farid Saberi, a slave of the Saberi brothers, who emerged from the writings of his father and uncle Maqbool Saberi as one of the most famous poets of South Asia.
