London: Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain died at the age of 96 after a short illness.

According to the BBC report, after doctors expressed concern about his health, members of the Royal Family started coming to Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, has died in Balmoral at the age of 96 after reigning for 70 years.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and a great social change was also witnessed. After his death, his eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country as the new monarch and head of the 14 Commonwealth of Nations.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said the Queen died at Balmoral this afternoon and the King and Queen consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow.

All the Queen’s children traveled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision. Her grandson Prince William is also on the way with his brother Prince Harry.

Earlier, Al Jazeera reported that Buckingham Palace said that doctors are concerned about the health of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and have recommended that the queen remain under medical supervision.

The announcement by Buckingham Palace comes a day after the 96-year-old Queen canceled a meeting of her Privy Council.

New British Prime Minister Liz Truss said about the health of Queen Elizabeth II that “the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news coming from Buckingham Palace”. “My thoughts and those of our people across the UK are with the Queen and her family at this time,” he said on social networking site Twitter.
