Singer Iqbal Bano passed away 12 years ago
Singer Iqbal Bano, who is known for her unique style of ghazal singing, passed away 12 years ago, but her songs still resonate in the ears of the audience.
Iqbal Bano gained fame by singing the ghazals of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ahmad Faraz as well as many other ghazals based on high quality poems and the lyrics of some of the ghazals sung by him became popular due to his excellent singing. Iqbal Bano’s art first appeared on All India Radio’s Delhi station years ago.
In 1952, the young singer maintained her connection with art even after her marriage. In the fifties, Iqbal Bano made her mark in Pakistan’s fledgling film industry as a playback singer, but her natural inclination was towards semi-classical singing instead of light music.
Along with Thamri and Dadra, he also sang ghazals in his typical semi-classical style. In Zia-ul-Haq’s last days, Faiz’s poem “We must see too” had become his trademark and was ordered at every gathering. This continued until a few years before his death.
Apart from Urdu, Iqbal Bano also sang Persian ghazals which became very popular in Iran and Afghanistan. She met Khaliq Haqiqi on April 21, 2009.
